SS ANTONIO SCIESA

Built in 1887 in Thornaby, U.K. by Richardson, Duck & Co., the 1905 ton steel steamship served the Royal Hungarian Sea Navy until 1915, when it was bought by Italian Railways and re-named SS Antonio Sciesa, after an Italian patriot. On 3 May 1917 the Italian cargo ship was travelling from Naples to Torre Annunziata when a torpedo fired by the German U-boat K.U.K. U-14 caused her to sink without casualties, 24 miles south-south-east of the Greek island of Sapienza.
