SS Cirene was another “Turret” type steamer. She was originally built for Angier Line (1887) Ltd London in 1894. The 3236 tons vessel was originally named “Royalist”. On September 30th, 1915, the Italian steamer SS Cirene, on a voyage from Italy to Rhodos in ballast, was sunk by the German submarine U-39 (Walter Forstmann), 85 miles south of Koufonisi Island. There were two casualties.
