UC-38

 UC-38, a German Submarine was constructed in 1916. Under the command of the Governor Wendlandt, on 14 December 1917, the submarine sunk the french cruiser Châteaurenault in the Aegean Sea. Then the escorting cruisers La Squenet and Mameluk of Châteaurenault followed the traces of UC- 38 and released bombs. As a result, serious damage occured leading to significant power  loss. The Captain ordered its immediate emersion and its abandonment. There were no casualties. According to German sources UC – 38 lies in the Corinthian Gulf.
