HMS Newmarket

HMS Newmarket, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1907 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was an auxiliary minesweeper of 833 tons. On July 17th, 1917, HMS Newmarket was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-38 (Alfred Klatt), south of Ikaria Island (Greece), Aegean Sea. 70 persons were lost.
