SS Margarita, built by Gourlay Bros., Dundee in 1871 and owned at the time of her loss by Navigation Hellénique John MacDowall, Piraeus, was a Greek steamer of 1112 tons. Built as the Rainbow, she sank the German SS Falke in a collision off the Dutch Coast on April 6th, 1902 but saved her crew. On November 27th, 1916, Margarita, on voyage from Greece to Alexandria (Egypt) transferring fruits and oil, was stopped and sunk by the German submarine U-39 (Walter Forstmann), northwest of Alexandria.
