SS Garfield

SS Garfield, built by W. Doxford & Sons, Ltd., Sunderland in 1907 and owned at the time of her loss by Northern Petroleum Tank SS. Co. Ltd. (Hunting & Son), Newcastle, was a British steamer of 3838 tons. On January 15th, 1917, Garfield, on a voyage from Barry (United Kingdom) to Port Said (Egypt) with a cargo of coal, was sunk by the German submarine U-39 (Walter Forstmann), 60 miles off Alexandria (Egypt). There were no casualties.
