SS Helmsmuir

Helmsmuir, built by W. Pickersgill & Sons, Ltd., Sunderland in 1913 and owned at the time of her loss by Strath SS. Co. Ltd. (Downing & Sutherland), Cardiff, was a British vessel of 4111 tons. On December 3rd, 1915, Helmsmuir, on voyage from Mauritius (East Africa) with a cargo of sugar, was sunk by the German submarine U-39 (Walter Forstmann), 66 miles from Gavdo Island (Greece). There were no casualties.
